The purpose of Distance Learning at Gateway is to provide learning opportunities to maximize student development by eliminating barriers such as distance and time, in order to increase students’ success in accomplishing academic and career goals.

KCTCS and the Kentucky Virtual Campus (KYVC) are partners in delivering quality, on-line courses, and programs “anytime, anywhere" for students.

Distance Learning (or Distance Education), is a field of education that focuses on technology, and instructional systems design that aim to deliver education to students who are not physically "on site". Distance Learning takes place anytime the student and teacher are separated by physical space, time, and or distance. Technology permits the instructor the means to teach and learn, interactively with the student.

Various methods of distance learning include, but are not limited to: Interactive Television, Online Learning, and Telecourses.

Gateway uses Online Learning, which sometimes may be referred to as eLearning, web classes, online classes, or Blackboard classes.
