Gateway Community and Technical College announced today that Belcan Corporation will provide $250,000 over five years to establish the Ralph G. Anderson Scholarships in Drafting, Computer Aided Design and Engineering Technology at the two-year college.
The funds will be used to present 10 full, $5,000 scholarships a year to qualifying students who have declared a major leading to an associate degree in drafting, computer aided design and engineering technology.
“We are delighted that Belcan has chosen to honor its founder, Ralph G. Anderson, by making this investment in the future of our region,” said Dr. G. Edward Hughes, Gateway president and CEO. “Belcan has been a leader in the engineering technology business since its founding in 1958 and has put the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area on the map as a center of excellence in design engineering, engineering analysis, computer modeling and advanced manufacturing techniques.
“These scholarships will help enable the region to build upon and enhance that reputation,” Dr. Hughes added. “Equally important, they mirror the goals of Vision 2015 and Gateway’s own mission to provide postsecondary education and training opportunities to enhance our regional economy.”
“The scholarships are expected to cover the cost of tuition, books, fees and other miscellaneous costs students encounter in obtaining associate degrees,” said Laura Cook, Gateway vice president of resource development and external affairs and executive director of the Gateway Community and Technical College Foundation.
Eligibility requirements include full-time status, residency in Northern Kentucky or bordering counties in Indiana and Ohio, financial need, as well as career and academic potential. In addition, preference will be given to students who are first-generation college students. All applicants will be screened by Gateway’s Scholarship Committee. The first 10 scholarships will be available in the 2008-09 academic year. |
