Gateway Cosmetology Department Will Collect Hair for Cancer Patients

Pamela Love Lorenz, a former Gateway Community and Technical College student, was one of the 9,500 Kentuckians who lost their lives to cancer in 2008. “She was my best friend; I felt we needed to help others in her honor,” said Student Government President Tammy Roseberry.
Roseberry’s respect for her lost friend inspired her to help organize a hair-cutting event at Gateway’s Covington Campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 4.
“Pam was an exceptional student, striving very hard to make a new career for herself and her family,” said Roseberry. Lorenz was a business administration student who started at Gateway in May of 2007.
“Holding this event is the best way to remember her; she always did everything she could for anyone who was in need,” Roseberry added.
Hair donors will be pampered as soon as they arrive at the campus at 1025 Amsterdam Road in Covington. No appointment is necessary.
Students will offer donors coffee or tea as well as baked goods. Cosmetology students will wash, cut, and style donors’ hair free of charge. Students also will offer manicures and small spa treatments. The Student Government Association will conduct a door prize drawing. Winners will receive for gift baskets that students have put together.
Donated ponytails will be given to the hair collection agency of the donor’s choice.
“If everyone gave a little of themselves to worthwhile causes like this one the world would be a better place,” said Roseberry.
