GCTC Selects Outstanding Employees

Michelle Deeley Wilhite, Patricia A. Goodman, and Nicole M. Stout have been nominated by Gateway Community and Technical College for statewide recognition by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.



 
Dr. Deeley Wilhite, associate professor of communications; Goodman, dean of institutional research, planning and effectiveness; and Stout, senior administrative assistant; will be recognized during the annual New Horizons conference in May. They are eligible to be named outstanding employees for the entire system.



 
“Being nominated for the New Horizons award is the highest honor an employee can receive from the college or the system,” said G. Edward Hughes, GCTC president/CEO. “The selection process at GCTC is not easy, because we are fortunate to have highly talented faculty and staff in all departments. This year, Michelle, Patricia and Nicole stood out for their singular accomplishments in student learning and engagement, organizational development, and student service, respectively.”



 
GCTC students have benefited from Dr. Deeley Wilhite’s teaching and coaching skills since 1999 when she joined Gateway after serving as vice president of educational initiatives for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. She initiated the college’s award-winning speech team and continues to serve as its coach. She is the faculty adviser to the college chapter of the Phi Rho Pi National Forensic Honor Society. She co-chairs the KCTCS Oral Communication Curriculum Committee and chairs GCTC’s General Education Pre-requisite Committee. She is a member of the college Support for Learning Team and serves as its subject matter expert. She co-chaired the KCTCS Prior Learning Assessment Committee from 2002 to 2007 and led Gateway’s Council on Occupational Accreditation Committee in 2006. She was the founding chair of the GCTC Judicial Board and served as a member from 2000-2006. She chaired the KCTCS Distance Education Peer Team from 2002-2004 and also chaired GCTC’s Distance Education Committee. She is the former chair of the college’s Adjunct Faculty Orientation Committee and Library Committee and previously served as chair of the Northern Kentucky Tech Prep Consortium.



 
Dr. Deeley Wilhite is a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, the Kentucky Communication Association and the Kentucky Forensic Association. She was named Carter-Talbott Speech Coach of the Year for 2008-2009, Outstanding Young Educator in Kentucky by the Kentucky Jaycees in 2000, and Outstanding Young Alumnus by Northern Kentucky University the same year. A 2001 graduate of KCTCS’ President’s Leadership Seminar, Dr. Deeley Wilhite, who resides in Florence, has undergraduate and master’s degrees from Northern Kentucky University, Miami University and the University of Louisville. She received a Ph.D. in higher education from UofL in 2003.



 
Goodman puts her background as a community college graduate to work guiding GCTC’s institutional effectiveness activities. A native of Eastern Kentucky and a graduate of Prestonsburg Community College, Goodman joined Gateway in 2006 as dean of institutional research, planning and effectiveness. In 2008, she led a team of 69 GCTC employees through an intensive process that culminated in December with the college being awarded full regional accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools. As part of the strategic planning process, she also led the development of new cross-functional teams involving all employees and instituted a peer review process to assure continuous improvement. Goodman chairs Gateway’s Institutional Effectiveness Council. Before joining Gateway, she served in faculty, staff and administrative leadership positions at Big Sandy Community and Technical College where she served most recently as director of institutional effectiveness.

Goodman is president of the Southeastern Association for Community College Research and is a member of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges, the Kentucky Association for Institutional Research and the Society for College and University Planning. She is a graduate of the American Association of Community Colleges Future Leaders Institute, the KCTCS President’s Leadership Seminar, and Leadership East Kentucky. Her community involvement includes prior service on the board of directors of the Big Sandy Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Eastern Kentucky Long-term Recovery Coordinating Committee, the Floyd County Cooperative Extension Council and its district board, and the Floyd County 4H Council. She was a member of the Prestonsburg Rotary Club from 1998 to 2005. Goodman has undergraduate degrees from Prestonsburg Community College and Sullivan University and an MBA from Morehead State University. She is on track to receive a Ph.D. in community college leadership from Walden University this summer. She resides in Union.



 
 Stout joined Gateway in 1997 as a campus assistant and was promoted to senior administrative assistant for the Nursing and Allied Health Division in 2007. She is a 2008 graduate of LEAD, Gateway’s  nine-month, selective-admission leadership development program. She is co-champion of the college’s Transfer Education Team and the Edgewood Campus liaison to the Staff Council. She is an elected member of the Peer Review Team that guides the internal process used to evaluate each Gateway department. A resident of Independence, Stout is a 2006 graduate of Northern Kentucky University and a 2002 graduate of Gateway.
