Local Businesses Featured at Gateway College Open House and Career Pathways Expo

, - April 06, 2009

Representatives of local businesses and manufacturers will be available to meet with current and prospective students at the fourth annual College Open House and Career Pathways Expo at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus April 9.

“We encourage anyone interested in preparing for a career in business and industry to attend,” said Dr. Tony Clarke, chair of the college’s Manufacturing and Trades Technology Division. “Participants can explore careers in 12 different disciplines and learn how to be job ready in two years or less. They will also have the opportunity to find out how to start at Gateway, earn an associate’s degree and then transfer to a four-year college to complete a baccalaureate degree.”

“We will also spotlight our Career Pathways programs that connect higher education with specific job goals,” said Doug High, director of external education, Business and IT Career Pathways. Gateway offers pathways in manufacturing, business and information technology and is developing an allied health pathway.

College officials will be available to discuss financial aid, scholarships and career transition services for displaced workers. Accounting, Air Conditioning Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting, Electrical Technology, Energy Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Information Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Management, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Office Systems and Welding Technology are among the careers people can explore at the event.

The 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. event at the Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way off Mt. Zion Road,  is free and open to the public. High school students, parents, displaced workers and anyone interested in beginning college or a new career are welcome to attend.
