Gateway Schedules Information Session On Workforce Training for Displaced Workers

, - April 16, 2009

Gateway Community and Technical College will conduct an information session April 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at its Edgewood Campus for displaced workers eligible to participate in the Career Transitions program recently announced by Governor Steve Beshear and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

The KCTCS initiative is being offered locally at Gateway and features a 50 percent tuition scholarship for up to six credit hours per term for summer and fall sessions. Summer terms begin as early as May 18; the fall semester begins Aug. 17.
The Career Transitions program provides participants with personalized admissions assistance, help in filing for state and federal financial aid; as well as advising and training sessions that maximize student opportunity for success and re-employment. Kentucky residents who have become unemployed and have filed for unemployment benefits since Oct. 1, 2008, are eligible for the program. Gateway’s normal open admissions criteria apply.
“We strongly encourage anyone who has been laid off and filed for unemployment benefits since last Oct. 1 to attend,” said Andre Washington, Gateway’s director of admissions and enrollment management and coordinator of the Career Transitions program. “As the primary provider of workforce training in Northern Kentucky, we want to make sure that everyone eligible for the program knows about it and has an opportunity to participate.”
The free information session will take place in Room E101 at the Student Services Center at Gateway’s Edgewood Campus, 790 Thomas More Parkway. For additional information about career training available at the college, visit www.gateway.kctcs.edu/new/programs.htm.  Or, call 859-442-4176.
