Gateway Recognizes Student Accomplishments With Third Annual Awards Ceremony
, - May 06, 2009
Melisa Bissonnette and Robert Chilelli will be honored Friday with the J.D. Patton Award at Gateway Community and Technical College’s third annual Night of Excellence awards ceremony.
“The J.D. Patton Award is long-standing tradition at Gateway and our forerunner institutions. The award is given annually to two students who best demonstrate exceptional technical and academic skill, citizenship and leadership characteristics,” said Dr. G. Edward Hughes, Gateway president and CEO.
“Melisa will receive an associate in science degree in business administration at commencement May 21, and Robert will receive an associate of applied science degree. They are outstanding examples of the J.D. Patton tradition,” Dr. Hughes added.
The college will bestow 55 other departmental and program awards at the event at the Boone County Public Library in Burlington. Award winners were selected by faculty on the basis of grade point average, leadership, technical excellence, attitude and ethics.
“In addition to the awards, we will also recognize 103 scholarship recipients and showcase student talents in poetry and cosmetology,” said Amber Decker, Gateway director of grants and contracts and chair of the committee planning the event, which is sponsored by the Gateway Community and Technical College Foundation.
